My youngest little came to me to ask for a cough drop. She said she wanted a sugary one like the kids have at school. I explained we DO NOT want sugar when we’re not above the wellness line because it doesn’t help our immune system.
I decided to look online for a healthier cough drop to make with coconut oil, add my favorite essential oils, and change it up to suit my family’s taste buds.
DIY Healthy Cough Drops
You’ll need honey, (I use raw honey), organic cinnamon, lemon, coconut oil, a mixer, essential oil (I used Thieves), and a mold to freeze the drops in and a glass container.
- Put 1/2 cup or so of coconut oil depending on amount you want to make in a mixer for 5 to 7 minutes.
- Add in 1/2 cup honey, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, and 3 or so drops of essential oil of your choice.
- Mix until smooth.
- Pour into mold and into freezer until solid.
- Pop your drops into glass container and keep in fridge and enjoy!
These also make a great yummy drop of sweetness when you’re wanting something yummy without all the yucky stuff.
I eat a drop in the afternoon or add it to my tea.
